EASYFILE 2.0
by Dennis LaBelle
It is recommended that you use the INSTALL.BAT program to copy the files to
your hard drive.
The following program and documentation files should be included with the
distribution copy of EASYFILE version 2.0
APPSMENU.TXT - Sample application menu file
COMLIST.TXT - Sample command list file
EASYFILE.EXE - Executable program
EASYFILE.DOC - The documentation for EASYFILE
EZINST.EXE - EASYFILE configuration utility
EZMENU.EXE - EASYFILE application menu generator
EZMONO.CFG - Sample command list file for monochrome screens
GAMEMENU.TXT - Sample application menu file
INSTALL.BAT - Hard disk installation file
README - Additional information on EASYFILE
REGISTER.TXT - Registration form for EASYFILE
ZIPCOM.TXT - Sample ZIP comment file
Version 2.0 of EASYFILE corrects the following problems with version 1.9 of
the program and adds some new features. A summary of the changes follows.
*** Problems Corrected by Version 2.0 ***
1 - Archive file "subdirectories" are now correctly restored on return from
eXecuting a program.
2 - Changing to a <PARENT> directory no longer requires the presence of a ".."
entry in the directory list. This is important to LAN users.
3 - The UnTagAll feature now correctly updates the tag information on the
window border.
4 - Application menus had a problem with the use of the @ expansion function
in the default response specification. Archived files were not being
unpacked before use if the @ function was used in the default response.
This has been corrected. An archived file specified with the @ function is
now unpacked properly.
5 - The pop-up window for specifying a disk drive can now correctly support
up to 9 drives.
*** NEW FEATURES in VERSION 2.0 ***
1 - Support for Extended and Expanded memory have been added.
a) EASYFILE can use either Extended memory, Expanded memory, DOS
conventional memory or disk files to store file information. The
preferred memory use may be specified in the COMMAND LIST file.
b) EASYFILE can use either Extended memory, Expanded memory or a disk
file to swap itself out when using MINIMIZE mode.
c) The extended memory manager HIMEM.SYS, available from Microsoft, must
be used in order to access Extended memory with EASYFILE.
d) An Expanded memory manager must be installed on your system in order
for EASYFILE to access Expanded memory.
2 - The program EASYMIN.EXE is no longer needed when using the MINIMIZE mode.
The MINIMIZE mode uses as little as 5K of memory. EASYFILE will now use
Extended or Expanded memory, if available, to MINIMIZE itself in
conventional DOS memory.
3 - The application menu can now be displayed on startup of EASYFILE. This
can be controlled by an option command in the COMMAND LIST file.
4 - EASYFILE can now be used to display a menu by itself in the center of the
screen. No other part of the EASYFILE screen is displayed. This will
occur only if all the EASYFILE features which may be deactivated are
turned off. This allows, if you desire, the use of EASYFILE solely as an
application menuing system.
5 - EASYFILE's built-in file LISTer can now handle files of any size. It is
no longer restricted to the available memory size.
6 - A hexadecimal viewing mode was added to EASYFILE's built-in file LISTer.
7 - The response targets in the pop-up windows have been enlarged for easier
access with a mouse.
8 - A file mask, at EASYFILE startup time, can now be specified in the
COMMAND LIST file.
9 - The search string used in the built-in file lister is now remembered when
moving between files.
10 - EASYFILE now requires a minimum of 150K RAM compared to the 187K required
by version 1.9.
11 - The ability to deactivate EASYFILE features has been extended by five
more items. They are:
a) Enter file mask
b) Print current directory list
c) Superdirectory of a disk
d) Set system bit on files
e) Clear system bit on files
These five commands may now be deactivated using the OFF option of the
COMMAND LIST file.
12 - You may now quit EASYFILE directly from an application menu.
